HATHA YOGA

I often hear comments such as “I’m not flexible” or “I’m self-conscious of people staring at me” and those were the same thoughts that ran through my mind just a few years ago. I have always been plus sized, this hasn’t stopped me from doing all the activities I’ve always dreamt of. I’ve bungie jumped, I’ve skied and even jumped out of an airplane (so much fun) but nothing put fear into my heart like going to a yoga class.

Western society is more concerned with achieving a yoga body and having the associated brand named active wear outfits and the latest blow out, rather than sharing of yoga philosophy and the experience and peace yoga can bring to your state of mind.

Yoga is for everyone, all shapes, sizes and levels of fitness and flexibility. Yoga is about turning up to your mat, being kind to your body, and yourself. It’s your own private journey to a deeper understanding of self and unlimited peace and this is the reason I became a yoga teacher.

Yoga reminds us to be patient with ourselves, to show compassion and grace for our bodies and minds while in a room full of other people. Yoga is about your own private journey and freedom comes when the rest of the room falls away and it’s just you, your mat and your breath.

What to expect?

My yoga classes focus on a blend of:

  • Pranayama (breathwork)
  • Asana (yoga poses or postures)
  • Individual alignment
  • Reiki healing
  • Yoga philosophy to take off the mat.

All yoga mats and equipment are provided. Classes are mixed level and all are welcome!

Come as you are, take a spot, come to your mat and come home to yourself.

1:1 Private Yoga Sessions

Private yoga sessions are a great way to build your confidence and strength before attending group classes. We will focus on understanding the way your body moves and feels in yoga postures, specific alignments and adjustments and the best ways to support and strengthen your body taking into account any current injuries.

This private practise is designed specifically with you in mind and we will build a program to a suit your every need, whether that is stress and anxiety reduction, body confidence, strengthening or restorative.

I have done a reasonable amount of yoga over the years and after a long break came across Alisha’s 8 week program. Previously my experience of yoga had been focused very much on physical exercise and what I experienced with Alisha was a greater focus on yoga philosophy. I really enjoyed learning about the 8 limbs of yoga and tried to take the yoga qualities (yamas and niyamas) with me into my daily routine. Alisha’s teaching supported me in being able to focus, and I found myself being more accepting of my capabilities.
